Review

Usually when we discuss microphones, we will go with your dinky microphones but not in this case.  Today we’re talking about the first step to taking audio quality serious.  Blue has been known for creating awesome microphones ranging from the Snowball (which is what we’re reviewing) to their Yeti Pro.  Not only that but they price the microphones at a reasonable price that is accessible to most beginners, that being said Blue has had a reputation in the gaming community for creating a standard of microphones for game play commentators to start out with.  Time and time again I’ve been referred to by others about how effective the microphone is.  Well that being said, I was fortunate to have been sent a Blue Snowball for review.

Lets talk about the quality, well for its price tag ($100) it does its job and then some.  I would go to say that the Blue Snowball would go beyond its price tag, something that could seem underprice.  When you first get a Blue Snowball, you open the box, tighten the actual microphone onto its mini-tripod, plug in the USB into the computer (which is provided), Mac or PC it works either way.  Automatically my iMac recognized the Snowball, loaded up GarageBand and was blown away, the quality is crisp.  Three different recording types which is easy to switch, all located on the back.  So going over quality, I’ve already determined that it’s great.

Moving on, how does the Snowball look?  Fine I guess, the look isn’t really what sells itself, more as I stated, quality.  The Snowball fits quite well on my desk.  The Snowball works with Windows XP, Vista, and Mac.  One little secret the Snowball uses to create such great audio quality is its Dual Condenser Capsule, it provides CD-quality audio.  The mic stand is adjustable.  The nice thing is how many different things I use the Snowball for: Skype, game play commentaries, providing voice overs for product reviews, and even is the microphone used on my podcast, GameTime.  It provides a level of ease.  So just judging on all my review notes, I’d say if you want to take your podcasting or game play commentaries serious, the Blue Snowball is the best option for cost-effectiveness while considering quality.
