Modern Warfare 3 is releasing on November 8th and like every game in the Call of Duty series, it will sell like lava filled hot cakes. How do we know? Ever since Call of Duty Modern Warfare was released in 2007, the franchise has killed any game in its path. In fact the most successful first day launch of any media source currently is Call of Duty: Black Ops. It’s true, you attach anything with the Call of Duty name to it and people will buy it which makes me wonder why there isn’t Call of Duty brand Soap…get it? Because the main character in Modern Warf– nevermind, you get it.
Now since we were lucky enough to be at Call of Duty: XP last weekend, we got to try out the newest money maker for Activison, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Now some people on Reddit (where I posted my article) asked how the game was because I never took the time to actually explain the thing most of them bothered to click to see. So in this article I will attempt to explain how the game was.
First of all, let me just call it: CALL OF DUTY WILL NOT BE THE GREATEST GAME WHEN IT COMES TO GRAPHICS. I scream this to shut the mouths of all Battlefield fanboys, yes I understand BF3 has a new graphics engine and quite frankly my dear boy, I don’t give a damn. Modern Warfare 3 graphically looks like Modern Warfare 2 in a tuxedo, very cleaned up and more colorful. At first, this came as a I surprise but as I began to play the game I realized that InfinityWard seemed to focus more on balancing the game rather than worrying about whether or not a building could fall apart from a grenade. Graphically, you won’t really care because when has the average FPS fan every really cared about realistic graphics.
So gameplay. I will saythat unless Battlefield 3 can produce gameplay that is the equivalent of their awesome graphics, Modern Warfare 3 will be the better game. “BUT MATTHEW, MODERN WARFARE 3 DOESN’T HAVE DINOSAURS”, this was an actual argument that a Battlefield fanboy had with me…I questioned if he was retarded that day. Most of us loved Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, it was awesome but Commando, Last Stand, One Man Army, Death Streaks, Tactical Insertion, and try hard quickscoping kind of killed the experience. IT IS ALL GONE (except for death streaks and quickscoping I think).
What Modern Warfare 3 doesn’t do in graphics and dinosaurs, they make up for it with a balanced multiplayer system. At XP, Robert Bowling, the community manager and basic face of InfinityWard talked about how when the development team looked at the killstreak system, they noticed that all the killstreaks in Modern Warfare 2 were all oriented for only one gametype: Team Deathmatch. They revamped the killstreak system for all the gametypes. They in fact made three different types of killstreaks: Assault, Support, and Specialist. Instead of calling them killstreaks, they’re called strike packages. In some instances, you have an opportunity to get extra perks while on your streak.
The game overall does itself justice. In my first match in Modern Warfare 3, I had my ass kicked because I didn’t know Underground (the first map in the MW3 gauntlet) was a pretty big map and I was like UMP45 with silencer for the win! WRONG, weapon selection is key for each map and gametype. Also, I want to shout the heavens with this key tip and I know this is a thing after going through this game after game in Modern Warfare 3..ready? COMMUNICATION IS KEY. If you say anything else in a rebuttal, you’re wrong. If you’re up against a team that communicates and your team isn’t: YOU ARE BONED. After my temporary team started throwing out temporary map calls, yelling out locations or domination flag spots, we were golden and that led us to almost win the Modern Warfare 3 gauntlet if we didn’t get our ass kicked in domination.
So, in the end with what I saw and played regarding Modern Warfare 3 at Call of Duty: XP, I will say that the multiplayer aspect is great and playing this was like playing Halo 3′s beta, It only made me hungry for the real thing. As the months draw near I will paraphrase what the CEO of Activision Eric Hirshberg said at XP: “Baseball has its season, football has its season, but come November, it’s Call of Duty time,”.
