Ken Block is co-founder of DC Shoes, a company that has recently been known for a series called Gymkhana. Defined by Wikipedia as:
Gymkhana events are time and/or speed events in an automobile. These can feature obstacles such as cones, tires, and barrels. The driver must maneuver through a predetermined “track” performing many different driving techniques. What separates gymkhana from traditional autocross events is that the gymkhana requires drivers to perform reversals, 180 degree spins, 360 degree spins, parking boxes, figure 8s and other advanced skills. Drifting is also encouraged where helpful or necessary. Essentially, a gymkhana is any event featuring a starting point, a finish line and some sort of “obstacle” to get through, around, or by, all within a certain time limit.
Ever since the first Gymkhana, the creative heads over at DC have had to step their game up for each addition to the series. Each one had to get more and more crazy looking, doing what seemed impossible drifts and just raising the bar up. What DC did for their fourth edition of Gymkhana was bring in director Ben Conrad, who directed Zombieland and 30 Seconds or Less and his team at Logan. Ken brought Gymkhana 4 to a place synonymous with Hollywood, the Universal Studios Backlot.
In the fourth edition of Gymkhana, Block is using a 2011 Ford Fiesta as his car of choice. The video starts with Block driving up to a checkered starting line, while panning out revealing the starting location is the War of the Worlds set. I won’t really discuss that much about the video as this is a video that really should be seen. Everything about it just screams awesome. Cameos are made by EpicMealTime from YouTube, best known for making crazy foods filled with bacon and Jack Daniels. The bar has been set for Gymkhana 4, the next question is how will Block raise the bar next time.
